Dadra and Nagar Haveli
The Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is located on the western coast, just 12 kms north-west of Daman with a small part of Gujarat (Vapi) separating the two. Dadra is quite small, with only two villages apart from Dadra. Nagar Haveli consists of 69 villages of which Silvassa, the capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is one. Three kms of Gujarat territory separate Dadra from Nagar Haveli. More than 75 percent of the population comprises of tribals and 40 percent of the Union Territory is reserved forests, rich in flora and fauna.

Wonderful natural vistas, sparkling rivers, rolling hills, well maintained gardens and lush forests make Dadra and Nagar Haveli worth a visit. In fact the beauty and serenity of the place makes this tourist destination a heaven for those seeking a peaceful getaway form large bustling cities.
 GETTING HERE
The nearest international airport is Mumbai (180 kms). From Mumbai one can travel by road or rail to Dadra.
The nearest railway station is Vapi (17 kms), which is linked by rail to many cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Pune. From Vapi, road transport (bus or taxi) is easily available to Silvassa, the capital city. Another convenient railhead is Bhilad (12 kms), which too, is linked by road with Silvassa.
By road, Vapi is connected to many cities and the distances to important cities are - Mumbai (180 kms), Surat (140 kms), Nashik (140 kms) and Daman (30 kms).
 WHAT TO SEE
Dadra and Nagar Haveli are blessed with nature's wonders, which are simply spellbinding. Places of tourist interest here are - Vanganga Lake and Island Garden at Dadra (6 kms from Silvassa, with bridges in Japanese style, boats, fountains, restaurants), Hirwavan garden, Piparia (with its roaring waterfall and beautiful springs and streams), Tribal Museum in Silvassa (displaying tribal ornaments, musical instruments, fishing and hunting tools and other artefacts), Vanvihar Tourist Complex at Chauda (20 kms from Silvassa, beautiful landscaped complex, with check-dam on the nearby Sakartod river for boating), Tapovan Tourist Complex at Bindrabin (18 kms, historic temple of Lord Shiva and amusement park with fountains and well laid garden), Water Sports Centre at Dudhani (40 kms, water scooters, aqua-bikes, speed boats, kayaks, canoes and passenger boats), Himaivan Health Resort at Kauncha (in the tranquil woodlands of Kauncha village).

In addition to these major attractions, there are several other places of tourist interest like the Tadkeshwar Shiv temple, the Bindrabin Deer Park at Khanvel, Vandhara Garden, Mini Zoo, Bal Udyan and a wonderful historic church. Some distance from Silvassa, there is Lion Safari at Vasona, where one can come face to face with the majestic Asiatic lion.
