Delhi is not just a city, but is like a book that narrates the history of India. In many ways, the city is a reflection of modern India, where the glorious past lives on in harmony with the inspiring future. The proud host of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in 2010, the city offers an amazing array of locations and activities to its visitors.
The nation's capital is a bustling metropolis - an amazing mix of fast paced modernism and carefully preserved exciting antiquity. Delhi's high-rise buildings and concrete flyovers are interspersed with well laid gardens, Mughal tombs and monuments. Victorian architecture intermingles on the skyline with designer buildings. The state of Delhi consists of Old Delhi that was founded by Mughal rulers, and New Delhi, a legacy of the city's British colonial past. Delhi offers one a look into the country's past through its innumerable tombs and forts, and yet keeps one aware of the city's growing presence in the world economy with its modern buildings. Exploring the city can be a fascinating and rewarding experience. Delhi blends within its folds the great cultural variety of India; an unceasing range of activities and a million ways of saying 'You are Welcome'.
