A
state with natural resources, industries, wildlife sanctuaries,
temples and vast area under forest cover, Jharkhand has lately
taken several initiatives to boost its tourism industry and
is on the course of becoming a favourite tourist destination
in the country. The state is mostly tribal. With its capital
city Ranchi, mining areas located near the Dhanbad city, minerals
in Chotanagpur, wildlife in Hazaribagh, Dwadash Jyotirling in
Deoghar, industries in Jamshedpur and Bokaro - Jharkhand is
fast becoming a major tourist destination. Most of the areas
of the state are blissfully remote and uniquely beautiful and
the tranquil environs offer an ideal escape. The state has Betla
National Park where the Tiger Project has been running since
1974. Another attraction is Dalma, which is an elephant sanctuary.
Overall, for visitors, Jharkhand is still the place of bygone
days, tempered with moments of serenity, goodwill and charm
of the natives that make it impossible not to be left totally
captivated. |

| GETTING
HERE |
| Ranchi is the
gateway city of Jharkhand, linked by South Eastern Railway to
all major parts of the country. There are direct train connections
between Ranchi and Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Patna.
By road, Ranchi is connected to all parts of Jharkhand and other
neighbouring parts of the country. The capital city is situated
on National Highways No. 23 and 33, and there is an excellent
network of good roads. Ranchi is directly connected by regular
bus services with all the main places in the state and also
outside the state. There are regular bus services to Jamshedpur,
Patna and Kolkata. Distances between Ranchi to some of the important
cities are - Bhubaneswar (550 kms), Delhi (1300 kms), Kolkata
(410 kms) and Patna (290 kms). The city has air connections
from Patna, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Raipur. |

Ranchi
Ranchi is a picturesque city situated in the valley of Chotanagpur,
2140 feet above sea level. The city is well-known for its picture
perfect attractions like waterfalls, cool and calm climate,
barren rocks and hillocks. Ranchi is surrounded by some of the
most popular waterfalls in India like Dassam Falls, Hundru Falls,
Jonha Falls and Hirni Falls. Other attractions are Ranchi Hills,
Gonda Hill and Rock Garden, Tagore Hill, Jagannathpur Temple
and Hill, Angrabadi and Sun Temple.
Apart from Ranchi, the major tourism destinations in Jharkhand
are Netarhat (156 kms from Ranchi), Bokaro Steel City (110 kms),
Dhanbad (170 kms), Chaibasa (130 kms), Gumla (80 kms), Hazaribagh
(100 kms) and Jamshedpur (140 kms). There are several attractions
in Dhanbad, Bokaro and Jamshedpur, which are the most important
mining and industrial towns of Jharkhand.
Netarhat
Situated at a height of 3,700 ft above sea level Netarhat is
an adorable hill station of Jharkhand.
Lodh Falls
61 kms from Netarhat is the Lodh Fall. It is one of the biggest
water falls of Jharkhand, with a height of 468 ft. |

Betla
National Park
Located 156 kms from Ranchi, it is a rich natural reserve that
is the abode of tigers, panthers, elephants etc. Hazaribagh
This is another important town in the state. The Hazaribagh
National Park is 19 kms from the Hazaribagh town. Nestling in
low hilly terrain, at an average altitude of 1800 ft. (615 metres),
this 183.89 sq. km National Park has an abundance of wild animals
like wild boar, Sambar, Nilgai, Chital, sloth bear, tiger and
panther.
Deoghar
It is known for its ancient temples. Baidyanath Dham situated
in the Santhal Parganas is a very important pilgrim centre.
It's famous among the Hindus for the temple of Shiva-Baidyanath.
Apart from these sites, Harila Joria, also famous for Shiva
Temple, is an important tourist destination. Tourists also rush
to Trikut to see the origin of the River Mayurakshi.
Dhanbad
This is one of the most important industrial centres in India,
with the richest mineral wealth. Major attractions are Central
Mining Research Station, Central Fuel Research Institute and
Mining College. |
