Tucked
away in the foothills of the Himalayas, Sikkim is simply a wonderland
with panoramic views, exotic orchids, amazing culture and forest-trails.
A virtual Shangri-la, the state is equally attractive for casual
visitors, adventure sports enthusiasts and those interested
in Buddhism and Tibetology. Spread below the Mount Khanchendzonga
(Kanchenjunga), the world's third highest peak, Sikkim offers
her visitors a rare and singular experience with the grandeur
of mountain peaks, lush valleys, fast flowing rivers and beautiful
hills. Within a matter of hours one can move from the sub tropical
heat of the lower valleys to the cold of the rugged mountain
slopes that reach up to the area of perpetual snow. Though entire
Sikkim is worth exploring, locations around Kanchenjunga are
the main attraction in Sikkim. Gangtok, the delightfully quaint
capital, is a place that delights its visitors with many wonders.
Sikkim offers several treks that lead through pine forests &
picturesque valleys and to monasteries & mountain lakes.
It is also the base for mountaineering expeditions, and the
rivers Teesta and Rangeet offer excellent scope for river rafting. |
